GUYS AND DOLLS

MUSICAL THEATRE WEST

Can do, these 'Guys' can do.  In the deft hands of Musical Theatre West, this classic musical rings like a bell.

Frank Loesser, Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows' ageless riff on Damon Runyon is a perfectly constructed classic, as the superb Musical Theatre West revival demonstrates.

Director Nick DeGruccio favors musical fable over antic cartoon, which pays top-notch returns. ...musical comedy heaven.

Broadway-loving lugs and skirts won't find a surer bet than this vintage trip to Runyonland.  - LA Times, Critic's Choice David C. Nichols

MTW's "Guys and Dolls" Shines

If you want to experience a rare phenomenon when script, cast and enactment meld to form a lustrous whole, get thee to the Carpenter Performing Arts Center to see Musical Theatre West's excellent song-studded production of Frank Loesser's "Guys and Dolls," directed by Nick DeGrucio.

Not only is the story sweet and tight, the characters memorable, but the acting, the singing and, especially, the dancing were superb; and the sets were definitely something to write home about. The depiction of Sky's flight to Cuba alone was worth the price of admission.

CABRILLO MUSIC THEATRE

BACKSTAGE WEST, CRITIC’S PICK

Charming triple-threat performances highlight director Nick DeGruccio's sparkling revisit to Frank Loesser's oft-revived 1950 musical. Deftly melding airy romantic comedy with the whimsical milieu of Damon Runyon's Big Apple stories, Cabrillo Music Theatre brings renewed luster to the sprightly Jo Swerling–Abe Burrows book and Loesser's classic score.

DeGruccio grounds this rendition with a warm glow emanating from the characters.  -  Les Spindle

Cabrillo comes up aces!

'Guys and Dolls' musical is rich with charm, humor and zest.

Cabrillo Music Theatre’s “Guys and Dolls” is a sure thing, you can bet on that.

Director Nick DeGruccio has assembled a cast that not only has a musical’s essentials, but is equally adept at punching up the laughs.

Don’t miss Cabrillo’s ‘Guys and Dolls’

Cabrillo Music Theatre rolled the dice on a new production of the classic musical “Guys and Dolls,” and the result is a mostly splendid rendering of Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows’ uproarious send-up of Damon Runyon’s New York during Prohibition.

If you want to know why Cabrillo Music Theatre was the most honored company at last year’s Ovation Awards ceremony, winning six crystal trophies for their productions of Jekyll & Hyde and Singin’ In The Rain, check out their equally award-worthy revival of Frank Loesser’s Broadway classic Guys And Dolls. With musical theater director extraordinaire Nick DeGruccio at the helm, Broadway-worthy choreography by Roger Castellano, an all-around terrific cast of twenty-nine, and a sensational design team, this Guys And Dolls proves just how great CMT has become under artistic director Louis Wilkenfeld.
